Here are the top three Apple TV+ shows to watch in June

Apple TV+ kicks off the summer with a June release slate that offers a little something for everyone. There’s a Ted Lasso-style sports comedy, new children’s programming, a Sydney Sweeney-starring horror film, Bridgerton-like historical romance, and a prestige crime thriller from the team behind one of Apple’s best. Among Apple’s full June TV+ lineup, here are the three biggest shows to look out for.

Stick (June 4)

Stick is a new golf comedy starring Owen Wilson. But what Apple wants you to know is that it has a lot of elements that made Ted Lasso great.

Ted Lasso premiered five years ago and became a phenomenon. While Apple TV+ has had two fantastic new series from its co-creator since then, Shrinking and Bad Monkey, there hasn’t yet been a show that’s sought to replicate the Lasso formula.

Stick, however, seems to be doing just that. Time will tell how much the two shows truly have in common, but a quick view of the trailer reveals how much Apple’s marketing, at least, is trying to pair them.

Stick’s first three episodes premiere on Wednesday, June 4, followed by weekly releases through July 23.

Here is Apple’s series summary:

“Stick” is a new sports comedy series created by Jason Keller and starring and executive produced by Owen Wilson. Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After the collapse of his marriage and getting fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets, and future, entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager). “Stick” is a heartfelt, feel-good sports comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.

The Buccaneers: season 2 (June 18)

Inspired by Edith Wharton’s final novel, The Buccaneers premiered on Apple TV+ in 2023 as the streamer’s take on Bridgerton.

Now, two years later, it’s back with a second season of big-budget historical romance as the titular buccaneers find themselves in new positions of power and influence.

The Buccaneers’ first episode of the new season premieres on Wednesday, June 18, followed by weekly releases through August 6.

Here’s the spoiler-free series summary Apple shared before the first season’s premiere:

Girls with money, men with power. New money, old secrets. A group of fun-loving young American girls explode into the tightly corseted London season of the 1870s, kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash as the land of the stiff upper lip is infiltrated by a refreshing disregard for centuries of tradition. Sent to secure husbands and titles, the buccaneers’ hearts are set on much more than that, and saying “I do” is just the beginning…

Smoke (June 27)

Smoke on Apple TV+

Smoke is a new crime thriller from the team behind one of the best on Apple TV+, the 2022 series Black Bird.

Based on the Firebug podcast and real-life events, Smoke stars Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett in a limited series about a serial arsonist who terrorized Southern California, burning down businesses in broad daylight and killing four people in the process.

Smoke’s first two episodes premiere on Friday, June 27, followed by weekly releases through August 15.

Here is Apple’s summary:

When an arson investigator begrudgingly teams up with a police detective, their race to stop two arsonists ignites a twisted game of secrets and suspicions.

Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted LassoSeveranceThe Morning ShowSilo, and Shrinking. You can also watch free in several ways.
